Hainan is one of the seven most famous tourist regions in China. There are more than 11 types of natural attractions such as seaside holiday, diving exploration, golf sports, tropical rainforests, ecological tourism, hot spring wellness, folk culture, etc. At the same is Hainan the largest special economic zone in China. It is China’s tropical province with the smallest land area and the biggest ocean space.

 

Hainan Island is situated in the southernmost part of China in the South China Sea, between Hongkong and Vietnam, backed by the china mainland. Hainan’s coast line is 1928 kilometres in the length (including the islands) with 68 various harbors and gulfs. Its ocean fishing ground area is nearly 300.000 square kilometres.

Hainan Island stretches about 300 kilometres in the length from the north to the south. In the north is Haikou situated the capital of the Island, in the south Sanya, Hainans most famous tourism spot. The province is divided into the following administrative districts:

Hainan, Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha islands as well as an ocean area.

It has 8 cities, 10 counties and the regional offices of the Xisha, Nansha, Zhongsha islands at county level.

Highways

 

 

  The main highway network is consisting of a round-the-island expressway. Three highways from south to north and four highways from east to west have been constructed. Class III highways cover every villages, towns and counties in the entire province. They let the transportation condition in the island become more convenient.

  The round-island expressway and Hainan expressway have been completed successively with a total traffic mileage of 626 km. The reconstruction and expansion of national and provincial highways have help form a densely covered road network featured with “three vertical and four horizontal routes”. The total length of highways on operation reaches 17,794km.

 The East Ring Railway is designed as the national first class two-line electric railway with a total length of 308 km and the designed speed of 250 km.   The West Railway extending from the south to the north have been built, which have been linked to the national railway network through the train ferry system. Cross-strait channel over Qiongzhou Strait (Connecting the island with the mainland)

 The Cross-strait channel over Qiongzhou Strait is planed to be built in 2012, and open to traffic in 2020.

It is the lifeline for Hainan’s sustainable economic development and also an important link to connect Hainan with eastern coastal economic region and the north gulf economic region. It has great significance in improving national strategic infrastructure and promoting rapid and harmonious development for regional economy and society.

 

Air Transport

 Hainan is the province where China's pilot program of opening air traffic rights is being conducted. Hainan, with the most opening policies in territorial air space, enjoys the third, the fourth and the fifth air traffic right.

 Haikou Meilan International Airport and Sanya Phoenix International Airport operate well over 340 domestic and international routes, of which 51 are international routes, reaching more than 90 domestic and overseas cities and regions.

 

Harbors

 Hainan currently has 24 harbors of different sizes, 34 berths with a handling capacity of above 10,000 tons are located in Haikou, Yangpu, Basuo, etc. Haikou Harbor is the national first grade harbor open to the outside, having 7 berths of over 10,000 tons. Yangpu Harbor is the national first grade harbor open to the outside, having 10 berths of over 10,000 tons. Basuo Harbor possesses seven 10,000-ton berths. Large scale cruise of 100,000 tons can be berthed at Sanya Passenger Harbor.

 

International Transport

China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines have operated the SPA, through-check in and other services from Hainan to Europe, America and Asia. Passengers and cargo can directly reach their international destination. Bulk cargo can be transported by direct shipping or transited through Shenzhen or Hong Kong to everywhere in the world.

 

Telecommunications

High-speed telecommunications networks from Haikou to Guangzhou and to North China Sea have been constructed. The fixed and mobile phone network, optical fiber communication network have covered the whole province. It is convenient to make domestic and international long-distance calls, video conference and data transmission Electric Power 

 The power capacity in the entire island is 2.14 million kw. The main framework of 220KV power grid is available throughout the entire island, and 110KV electric network covers the villages, towns, counties, cities and development zones throughout the whole province. 35KV electric circuitry is spread to every village. The cross-sea inter-grid project with China Southern Power Grid is under construction. Electric power supply is sufficient here. The Changjiang nuclear power station is planed to be built in October 2009.

 

Pipelined Natural Gas

The natural gas pipeline from Sanya to Dongfang to Yangpu to Haikou has put into operation. By the year 2010, the natural gas supply of the province will reach 5 billion cubic meters annually.

           

Water Supply

 There are 6 large-scale reservoirs and 72 medium-sized reservoirs, with the storage capacity of 9.65 billion cubic meters and the annual supply capacity of 5.6 billion cubic meters, which can meet the demand from industrial, agricultural and daily life use.(See: page….)

 

Continue Improvement of Infrastructure Environment
